DANAE, Dynamic and distributed Adaptation of scalable multimedia coNtent in a context Aware Environment

Doel van het project
"The project proposed to address the dynamic and distributed adaptation of scalable multimedia content in a context-aware environment. Its objectives were to specify, develop, integrate and validate in a testbed a complete framework able to provide end-to-end quality of (multimedia) service at a minimal cost to the end-user. An application was specifically developed and implemented on a demonstrator, to illustrate the new service concepts pioneered by the Project."

Rol van het Museon
Ontwikkelen van een 'demonstrator', gebaseerd op de technologie die binnen het project werd ontwikkeld: een mobiele tour door het museum, gebaseerd op pda en tablet.

OpenHeritage: Enabling the European Culture Economy

Doel van het project
- Development of dynamic, computable models of territorial CH systems aimed at assessing and valorising the qualities and strengths of each regional or local cultural system;
- Development through integration of an innovative solution for collections management and user access in memory institutions based on existing systems developed by two of the partners;
- Deployment of Territorial Service Centres supporting memory institutions through facilities management, customer relationship management, storage, promotion and transaction services (a new model of cultural Application Service Provider (ASP);
- Validation of the model and related technologies and services in significant test beds, through a range of technological and territorial validation activities.

Regnet, Cultural Heritage in Regional Networks

Doel van het project
"REGNET set up a functional network of cultural service centres through Europe which will provide IT-services dedicated to cultural heritage organisations. A technical and legal framework, the REGNET system, for such a service infrastructure will be developed. This will offer services like data entry, search and retrieval, and e-Business. It will be based mainly on integration work using state-of-the-art components. The network will integrate multi-media industries, content providers and service centre operators. Existing cultural infrastructures will be exploited and new infrastructures should be developed where necessary.
The technical infrastructure should allow to set up even low cost service centres. The membership concept of the service centres will generate a critical mass of digital or physical goods contained in Content Provider's organisations."

Memoria, Helping Memory Institutions meet the Future

Doel van het project
"The general aim of the Memoria project was the introduction into memory institutions of a set of sustainable innovation processes in order to boast their competitiveness and to fulfil their core potential mission towards territory development and job creation, with special reference to networks of regional institutions and to the dynamic aggregation of less favoured (e.g., peripheral, etc.) and ‘minor’ institutions. The objective was pursued through:
1. the systematic exploitation and adaptation of research and development results in the area of interactive multimedia solutions;
2. the transfer and adaptation of emerging technologies(the Application Service Provider model for Internet-based network services);
3. the implementation of efficient methodologies for knowledge management and exploitation. "

EMN, European Museum Network

Project’s aim
"The project was an application pilot in which the objective was to develop an advanced application of telecommunications in the cultural field. A full digital multimedia alpha-system was developed based on an Apple Macintosh IIfx platform and following the client-server concept. It was installed in 8 museums, their staff built a common multimedia data pool of 800 museum objects, each of them representing a multimedia data-document including a great number of related multimedia documents. One application was an authoring tool allowing the museum staff to edit and compose their own multimedia documents. The second application was a presentation system for lay museum visitors which allowed them to navigate from object led by keywords representing the visitors individual associations and impressions. Experiments with 2 Mbit/s links were conducted successfully, but because of high telecommunication cost, data updating was organised through dispatching storage media (re-writablemagneto-op tical cartidges). Affordable telecommunication links were urgently needed to support this service. The project shows that new telecommunications technologies can contribute to cultural integration amongst European Countries. A novel kind of service to the museum world was developed."
