Beste lezer,

The schools are just about to break up for the summer holidays. This will be your last chance to visit our very popular Plantastic exhibition! This colourful, entertaining show for all the family continues at the Museon until the end of August, when it will be replaced by a new exhibition called High Tech Romans.

Meanwhile, preparations are under way for the 3rd Hague Museum Night. On 1 September, over 20 museums and other Hague institutions will stay open far into the night. Make sure you keep the date clear in your diary! This year's theme is "Cross Culture Local Heroes". Look out for our special August newsletter containing the complete Museum Night programme!

Please feel free to e-mail any questions or comments about this newsletter to nieuwsbrief@museon.nl

The new waterLAB

Impressie van het WaterlabDid you know that the Museon has a special classroom for museum lessons on water, electricity and photography?

Last May we started an 'extreme makeover' of the classroom and now it's a wonderful new 'WaterLAB'! We've been able to create this multifunctional area thanks to sponsorship from a range of bodies, including Zabawas, the Waterlaboratorium and the City of The Hague.

The WaterLAB is due to open this summer and from then on students, schoolchildren and families will be able to have fun doing hands-on experiments with the help of a museum educator. The room will also be suitable for physics workshops and other activities involving spectacular scientific experiments.

In parallel with the makeover of the WaterLAB, we've also been updating our Atelier so that kids can have a great time there doing creative activities or throwing the best birthday party ever.

Vakantie-activiteiten

The schools are about to break up for the summer holidays and, just as you'd expect, the Museon has thought up a whole programme of fun things to do!

In het plantenlabNot visited our Plant Lab yet? Come and find out in next to no time whether your plants are in the right kind of earth. And do you know what crisps, paper and sugar cubes have in common? Or why one kind of flower smells good while another stinks like rotting meat? Find out all this and much more in the Plant Lab. Pools dansenOn 1 July we're holding a very special workshop at the Museon: Polish folk dancing! Every part of Poland has its very own dances, music, songs and costumes. The three dances you can learn at this workshop are the Polonez (like the Polonaise that people dance in the Netherlands), the Krakowiak from Cracow (the capital of Poland) and the Zasiali Gorale from Silesia.

The basic dance steps are fairly easy, so everyone can join in straightaway! Sign on for one of the workshops and have fun learning the genuine, original Polonaise! For kids aged 7-12.

Two new exhibitions High Tech Romeinen

Plantastic and Our Polish Neighbours will still be on
for a while, but behind the scenes we're already busy organizing new exhibitions to replace them: High Tech Romans will explain the amazing technological achievements of Ancient Rome - incredible feats of engineering like bridges, domes and water mains.

There will also be a small exhibition called Mi casa
es su casa
. It's all about Spanish immigrants in the Netherlands and those who have gone back home again to Spain. The exhibition will be a contribution to the current Dutch debate on emigration in the past and present.

You can visit High Tech Romans from 24 September and Mi casa es su casa is scheduled to open in October.
