Without raw building materials, we would have no houses, offices, schools or roads. Sand and gravel are used in concrete and to level up roads. Clay and stone are needed to make bricks and tiles for house-building and paving materials for streets. There is plenty of clay practically everywhere in the Netherlands. The deposits of sand and gravel are far more limited. Every province in the Netherlands helps to meet the demand for sand, with the sand-rich provinces providing more than those where the material is in short supply.
