Everything that moves could theoretically use hydrogen (H2) as fuel: buses, cars, scooters, planes and electric bicycles. It is also suitable for laptops and mobile telephones. If we could find enough hydrogen on earth, our energy problems would disappear overnight. Unfortunately that isn’t the case. Hydrogen always has to be produced using different forms of energy. You can easily produce hydrogen gas from coal and natural gas. But carbon dioxide (CO2) is released in the process. In 2004, 90% of all hydrogen was made from fossil fuels. In other words, 90% of it wasn’t sustainable.
